Terms and Conditions – Liquid Damage Repairs (Logic Boards & Motherboards)

1. Nature of Liquid Damage
When a laptop is exposed to liquid, the fluid typically passes through the keyboard before reaching critical components such as the logic board / motherboard, hard drive, and battery. If the machine fails to power on following liquid exposure, the first step in repair is to remove the logic board / motherboard and carry out ultrasonic cleaning to eliminate residues and corrosion.

2. Corrosion and Component Damage
If a board has been left untreated for an extended period, corrosion may progressively damage components, in some cases beyond repair. Our technicians conduct a detailed investigation to identify and repair any damage. In many cases, the logic board / motherboard can be restored to working condition. Once board-level repairs are completed, additional testing of the keyboard, hard drive, and battery is necessary, as these may also have been affected.

3. Repair Costs

• The average cost of liquid damage repair on a logic board / motherboard ranges from £195 to £450 + VAT.

• A final quotation will be provided once the device has been fully assessed in our repair centre. Pricing depends on the make, specifications, age, and value of the computer.

• In situations where Mac logic board repairs are carried out for data recovery purposes (due to storage being integrated into the logic board), repairs are performed solely to allow data access. In such cases, while the Mac may be returned in working order, no warranty is provided on overall device functionality.

4. Additional Component Costs

• In approximately 95% of liquid damage cases, the keyboard requires replacement. Prices for replacement keyboards range between £110 and £195 + VAT, depending on model and specifications.

• Other components such as the battery or trackpad may also need replacement. Additional charges will apply accordingly.

5. Data Recovery in Severe Cases
In cases where liquid penetrates the hard drive, the stored data may be at risk. To retrieve valuable data, a physical or logical data recovery service may be required. Pricing for data recovery ranges from £295 to £650 + VAT, depending on the complexity of the recovery process.

Other miscellaneous parts may be required such as power supplies, connectors, audio jacks, memory or LCD screen cables.

Before we can confirm that the repair will be completely successful, we need to get the logic board to work. That's why customers have to agree on the intitial cost of repair for us to go ahead.
