Terms and Conditions of Liquid Damage Services
Please read these before booking a liquid damage repair.
What happens after a spill
When liquid is spilled on a computer, it passes through the keyboard before it reaches the logic board, the hard drive and the battery.
If the machine will not turn on after a spill, the first step is to remove the logic board and clean it ultrasonically, to remove residue and corrosion. If corrosion has been left too long, it eats away components on the board, and finding and repairing that damage takes a detailed investigation.
In many cases we can repair the logic board and get it back to working order. Once that is done, we test the keyboard, the hard drive and the battery, which may also have been damaged.
Costs
- Logic board: an average liquid damage repair ranges from £195 to £350 + VAT. An accurate quote is given once the computer is in our repair centre, and depends on its specification, age and value.
- Other components: additional charges may apply to cover the cost of other components in the laptop.
- Keyboard: in 95% of cases the keyboard has to be replaced. Prices range from £110 to £195 + VAT, depending on specification and model.
- Data recovery: sometimes the liquid reaches the hard drive, where your data is stored. A physical or logical data recovery is then needed to retrieve the data, if it is important. Prices range from £295 to £650 + VAT.
- Other parts: parts such as power supplies, connectors, audio jacks, memory or LCD screen cables may also be required.
Agreeing the initial cost
Before we can confirm that the repair will be completely successful, we need to get the logic board working. That is why customers have to agree to the initial cost of repair before we go ahead.
